Visakhapatnam*Doctors at Medicover Hospitals in Venkojipalem, Visakhapatnam, successfully treated and saved the life of a 73-year-old woman in a critical case. The patient was suffering from severe narrowing of a heart valve, a condition that hinders the proper flow of blood from the heart to the rest of the body. Typically, such conditions require open-heart surgery; however, given the patient's advanced age and other underlying health issues, this surgical approach was deemed too risky. Consequently, the medical team decided to treat her using TAVR—an advanced, minimally invasive procedure that does not require making an incision in the body. However, this was not a straightforward case. The procedure was rendered even more complex by two factors: the patient's valve was unusually small in size, and the coronary arteries (the vessels supplying blood to the heart) were situated in very close proximity to the valve. Nevertheless, through meticulous planning and careful assessment, the doctors selected the appropriate valve and successfully implanted it. The patient is currently recovering well. The procedure was performed by a team led by Dr. Hemant Kumar Behera, Dr. Ch. Narasimha Raju, and Dr. Ashwin Kumar Panda, under the expert guidance of international specialist Dr. Ramesh Daggubati. "Every patient's condition is unique; therefore, a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment is not suitable for everyone. With the right combination of planning, technology, and experience, we can successfully manage even the most complex cases," the doctors stated. They stated that these types of treatments would be highly beneficial for the elderly and patients at high risk. Center Head Dr. Arun Kumar and the hospital staff participated in this program. The patients' relatives expressed their gratitude to the treating doctors and the Medicover staff.
