Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times:A person seriously injured in an accident, a mother who suffered from heavy bleeding during childbirth, a patient undergoing cancer treatment, a child suffering from thalassemia... All of them have the same hope - blood donation. In these days when there is no alternative to blood, voluntary blood donors are the basis for thousands of lives. That is why World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14 every year to create awareness about the importance of blood donation.

Although millions of units of blood are needed every day in India, the problem of blood shortage continues in many areas. In cases of emergency, incidents of family members and relatives facing extreme difficulties in obtaining blood are often seen. Medical experts suggest that voluntary blood donation needs to become a social movement to overcome this situation.

Many people have misconceptions that blood donation causes weakness. However, doctors say that it is completely safe for a healthy person to donate blood and the body replaces the lost blood within a few days. Healthy people between the ages of 18 to 65 can donate blood regularly.

On this occasion, *Dr. Vinisha Kamini, *Consultant General Medicine*, Medicover Hospitals said, "Despite the advancement of modern medicine, the technology to make blood is still not available. Therefore, every person who donates blood is truly a life donor. One unit of blood we donate can save up to three lives. Blood plays a vital role in the treatment of accidents, heart surgeries, cancer treatments, and blood-related diseases seen in children. By donating blood, we can fill hope in someone's life even if we do not meet them directly. The youth should come forward and take voluntary blood donation as a responsibility in life."

On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, medical experts are calling on everyone to donate blood at least once a year and serve their community. Because the little blood we donate... can fill a smile in someone else's life.
