Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times:26.June 2026 :The fourth memorial lecture program, organized to mark the 92nd birth anniversary of the late P.V. Chalapathi Rao—former State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the undivided Andhra Pradesh—was held grandly at the Sagaramala Auditorium in Visakhapatnam.
Dr. Bommaraju Sarangipani and Prof. Kasireddy Venkatareddy attended as chief guests at the event, which was presided over by PVN Madhav, the Andhra Pradesh BJP State President and son of P.V. Chalapathi Rao. A large number of public representatives, prominent figures from various fields, party leaders, activists, intellectuals, and artists participated in the program.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers recalled the distinguished services rendered by the late P.V. Chalapathi Rao in the educational, social, and cultural spheres. They noted that his efforts toward societal development serve as an ideal for the current generation and that his life stands as an inspiration to the youth. Speaking on the occasion, AP BJP State President PVN Madhav said, "My father, P.V. Chalapathi Rao, is my inspiration. While his birthday falls on June 26, the Emergency was imposed in the country at midnight on June 25, 1975—the day before. An arrest warrant was issued against him at that time. Acting on party directives, he evaded arrest by moving around in disguise for 19 months, thereby breathing life into the movement to protect democracy."
He further added, "Some might ask about the connection between P.V. Chalapathi Rao and Veer Savarkar. Chalapathi Rao conducted his public life by taking Veer Savarkar’s nationalist spirit and patriotism as his ideals."
Former State President and MLC Somu Veerraju praised P.V. Chalapathi Rao, noting that he served in public life inspired by revolutionary figures like Veer Savarkar. He stated that they are all following the path of nationalism shown by such leaders.
Professor Kasireddy Venkatareddy spoke about Veer Savarkar’s courage, patriotism, and spirit of sacrifice. He mentioned that Savarkar authored 12 books while enduring approximately 32 years of imprisonment. He described Savarkar as a remarkable individual who composed thousands of verses on the walls of the Andaman jail, which were later published as books. He noted that Savarkar’s ideas and ideologies inspired many young people to participate in nationalist movements. It was noted that he traveled across the country, propagating the ideology of independence and tirelessly working towards the unity of Hindu society.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bommaraju Sarangipani lauded the services rendered by the late P.V. Chalapathi Rao. He recalled how they had lived underground together for approximately 19 months during the Emergency. He mentioned that, during that period, Chalapathi Rao would move about in disguise to convey information regarding the movement's activities. He also highlighted that the hardships endured by Veer Savarkar in the Andaman Cellular Jail and the sacrifices he made for the nation's independence remain unforgettable in history.
Visakhapatnam North MLA Vishnukumar Raju, Satyakumar Master, Samskara Bharati State President P.V.N. Krishna, Parashuram Raju, Dwarampudi Parameswara Rao, and others participated in the event.
**"Veer Savarkar" Historical Play – A Major Attraction**
As part of the event, the historical play "Veer Savarkar"—presented by Samskara Bharati and directed by Dr. P.V.N. Krishna—captivated the audience. The actors' performances, dialogue delivery, and vocal modulation received high praise. The costumes, set design, and background music further enhanced the play's appeal. After the performance, the audience expressed their appreciation and delight to the artists.
