VisakhapatnamIndianNewsTimes27.06.2026 Visakhapatnam, announced today (27.06.2026) that the National Pulse Polio Programme for children aged 0–5 years will be conducted on Sunday, 28.06.2026, at all Primary Health Centres, Urban Health Centres, and transit points (such as railway stations and bus complexes). He urged the public to make full use of this opportunity. If children are unable to receive the polio drops on 28.06.2026 for any reason, door-to-door administration of the drops will be carried out on the 29th and 30th. A total of 1,062 booths, 62 transit booths, and 94 mobile booths have been set up for this purpose. A special plan is in place to administer polio drops to children in identified high-risk areas (85 locations, 6,497 children) and slums (54 locations—35 settled and 19 migrant—covering 4,685 children) across Visakhapatnam district. It was announced that 4,518 vaccinators, 120 supervisors, and 49 cold chain units are ready for this massive drive. Approximately 209,660 doses of OPV will be required for this purpose.
During the District Task Force Committee meeting held on the 22nd of this month under the chairmanship of the District Collector and Magistrate, a target of 189,712 children aged 0–5 years was set out of the total Visakhapatnam district population of 1,954,494. As per the District Collector's orders, the GVMC Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) must ensure booth cleanliness, drinking water supply, and necessary arrangements for setting up booths in schools. Mobilization of children must be undertaken in coordination with Village Secretariats, as outlined in the designated Mandal-level meetings. It was also directed that teachers be utilized for booth-based and door-to-door activities based on requests from the concerned medical officers.
All departments must coordinate for this polio vaccination drive; specifically, ICDS CDPOs, supervisors, Anganwadi workers, and DRDA women's groups must participate fully on the 28th, 29th, and 30th. Instructions were issued to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply until June 30th for the duration of this polio vaccination program. It was announced that booths for administering polio drops should be set up in private hospitals—with support from self-help groups and the cooperation of the Panchayat Department, Rotary Club, and Lions Club. District Medical and Health Officer Dr. P. Jagadeeswara Rao and District Immunization Officer Dr. Lucy called for the establishment of booths at locations such as the Railways, Steel Plant, Navy, and Port, as well as community mobilization booths, to administer polio drops to children aged 0–5 years and demonstrate a polio-free India to the world.
Dr. P. Jagadeeswara Rao urged all program officers to act as monitoring officers and to coordinate with local leaders in their respective areas to ensure the success of the Pulse Polio program.
