Visakhapatnam :Indian News Times:16 June Shri Sandeep Mathur, General Manager, South Coast Railway, conducted weekly safety review meeting today, 16th June 2026, at The Deck Building, Visakhapatnam, to assess the zone’s preparedness for the ensuing monsoon season, focus on safety related modernisation activities and ensure safe, smooth, and uninterrupted train operations. The meeting was attended by Principal Heads of Departments, while the Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) of the four divisions—Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntakal and Guntur—participated through video conferencing.

In view of the approaching monsoon and the potential risks posed by overgrown vegetation, the General Manager directed officials to undertake systematic cutting, trimming and notching of trees located near railway tracks and Overhead Equipment (OHE). These measures are aimed at preventing disruptions to train services and ensuring operational safety during adverse weather conditions. He also stressed for the timely completion of the safety related modernisation works such as non-interlock working and   continuous inspections by field supervisors and instructed that any emerging issue should be attended to and resolved promptly.

The review also focused on crowd management in the wake of the conclusion of summer vacations and the conduct of important examinations in the coming weeks. Officials were advised to maintain close monitoring of passenger movement and take preventive measures against miscreant activities, such as placing metallic objects on tracks or leaving construction materials near railway infrastructure and OHE installations, which could pose serious safety hazards.

Shri Sandeep Mathur further directed officials to intensify inspections, ensure round-the-clock monitoring of vulnerable and critical locations, and expedite all pending maintenance and repair works
