Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times:9 june, The week-long awareness campaign organized by the Visakhapatnam Division of South Coast Railway to promote safe practices at level crossings concluded today. The initiative was conducted as part of the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) 2026, a global safety campaign organized by the International Union of Railways (UIC) under the theme “Alert Today, Safe Tomorrow.”
The campaign witnessed active participation from Civil Defence volunteers, Civil Engineering staff, and Railway Safety personnel, who engaged with the public across the Division through awareness rallies, outreach programmes, and street plays aimed at educating road users and pedestrians about the importance of observing safety norms at level crossings.
As part of the concluding events, an awareness rally was organized from the Divisional Railway Manager’s Office. The programme was led by Shri Lalit Bohra, Divisional Railway Manager, Visakhapatnam Division, and attended by Shri E. Santharam, Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Infrastructure); Shri K. Rama Rao, Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operations); Shri AK Mutatkar Senior Divisional Safety Officer, along with other officers and staff members.
On the occasion, Civil Defence volunteers presented a street play at the DRM Office Annex, Dondaparthi, highlighting common unsafe practices at level crossings and emphasizing the need for vigilance and responsible behaviour while crossing railway tracks.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Lalit Bohra stressed the importance of safety awareness in preventing accidents at level crossings and safeguarding precious lives and property. He urged the public to strictly adhere to safety guidelines, obey warning signals, and exercise utmost caution while crossing railway tracks.
Throughout the week, intensive awareness drives were conducted at level crossing gates, public places, and vulnerable locations near railway tracks. Railway officials and volunteers interacted with road users, distributed safety pamphlets, and spread awareness on the dangers of trespassing and ignoring level crossing signals.
