Extensive arrangements are being made for the Sri Sri Sri Jagannatha Swamy Rathotsavam (chariot festival).
Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times :13 July 2026 :Surada Rajkumar, Chairman of the Temple Board of Trustees, and T. Rajagopal Reddy, Executive Officer, announced that extensive arrangements have been made for the Rathotsavam (chariot festival) of Sri Sri Sri Jagannatha Swamy, located on Kotha Road in Visakhapatnam town. Speaking at a press conference held at the temple on Monday, they stated that the 'Shanti Kalyanam' of Goddess Subhadra would be performed on the evening of the 15th. They further announced that the inaugural Rathayatra would take place on the 16th, with local MLA Ch. Vamsikrishna Srinivas flagging off the procession at 5:00 PM. The Rathayatra will be conducted with great grandeur—featuring Vedic chants, auspicious music, cultural programs, and recitations of the Vedas and the Bhagavad Gita—as the procession moves from the Sri Sri Sri Jagannatha Swamy temple to Turner Satram. Additionally, they mentioned that starting from the 17th, the deity would grant darshan in the 'Dashavatara' (ten incarnations) forms at the Turner Satram Kalyana Mandapam. It was announced that Sri Jagannatha Swamy would grant darshan to devotees in the following avatars: Matsya (17th), Kurma (18th), Varaha (19th), Narasimha (20th), Vamana (21st), Parashurama (22nd), Rama (23rd), Balarama and Krishna (24th), and Shesha-panpu (reclining on the serpent Shesha) (25th). On the morning of the 26th, the Lord will be seated on the chariot, and the return procession to the Sri Jagannatha Swamy temple from Turner Satram will commence at 5 PM; this return Rath Yatra will also be conducted grandly amidst the enthusiastic participation of devotees. Executive Officer (EO) Raja Gopal Reddy stated that while last year's Rath Yatra incurred an expenditure of ₹40 lakhs and generated an income of ₹75 lakhs, this year's expenditure is estimated at ₹40 lakhs with a projected income of ₹80 lakhs. Arrangements have been made for *Annadanam* (free food distribution) for devotees every afternoon and cultural performances every evening during the festival. Tickets priced at ₹20, ₹50, and ₹200 have been introduced for the convenience of devotees, and a *Maha Annadanam* (grand food distribution) is scheduled for August 6th.
