Electricity Outsourcing Employee Attempts Suicide... Citing Insufficient Wages and Financial Hardships in a Selfie Video
Ravulapalem |India news times :An incident in Ravulapalem, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, has caused a stir across the region after an electricity outsourcing employee attempted suicide by consuming pesticide, citing insufficient wages and severe financial difficulties. Bandaru Prashanth (30), a native of Amalapuram, works as an outsourced Shift Operator at the Ravulapalem electricity substation. On Saturday, he attempted suicide by consuming pesticide near Vadapalem in the Kothapeta Mandal. Prior to the act, he recorded a selfie video appealing to the government to implement the principle of "equal pay for equal work." Upon seeing the video, his colleagues rushed to the scene and transported him to a private hospital in Ravulapalem, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
In his selfie video, he appealed to Chief Minister Chandrababu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh to take cognizance of his plight and ensure justice is served. He pleaded for justice for all contract electricity employees and requested the government to support his family, which is currently struggling with financial hardships due to his meager income; he expressed hope that, even if it comes at the cost of his own life, his sacrifice would ultimately lead to a positive outcome. In light of this incident, leaders of the Electricity Contract Employees' Association have urged the government to ensure justice for all outsourced employees who are currently working for insufficient wages. Colleagues arrived at the hospital where Prashanth is undergoing treatment. Union leaders expressed concern over his health condition. They stated their belief that the government would ensure justice and urged employees not to resort to such extreme measures.
