Healthy Andhra Pradesh is the Goal of the Coalition Government* *Enhancing Nutritional Awareness among Pregnant and Lactating Women is Our Responsibility* *Poshan Pakhwada Programme under the Leadership of TDP State President Palla Srinivasa Rao in Gajuwaka*
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Srinivasa Rao underscored that tackling malnutrition among pregnant women, lactating mothers and young children transcends the scope of a conventional health initiative, describing it instead as a critical social obligation that will shape the State’s future. He observed that the measures being undertaken by the coalition government, under the far-sighted leadership of N. Chandrababu Naidu, are setting a benchmark for the rest of the country. Through Poshan Pakhwada, he noted, sustained efforts are being made at every anganwadi centre to spread awareness among mothers and caregivers, while promoting healthier lifestyles.
Emphasising the significance of the first 1,000 days—from conception until a child turns two—he described this window as decisive in determining long-term health outcomes. Focused attention on maternal nutrition and early childcare during this phase, he said, can lay the foundation for a robust and healthy generation. Strengthening the anganwadi system remains central to this effort, ensuring that the importance of nutrition reaches every household.
With the broader objective of a “Poshit Bharat”, he said initiatives are being undertaken to discourage the consumption of junk food while encouraging traditional, home-cooked diets. Efforts are also being made to sensitise the public about the adverse impact of packaged foods.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao further highlighted that the years between three and six are critical for cognitive development, making parental involvement indispensable. Engaging children through conversation, play and storytelling, he suggested, can significantly contribute to their holistic development. He also stressed the need to involve men more actively in fostering health awareness at the family level.
The posters released on the occasion carried key messages such as “The First 1,000 Days are Crucial”, “Home-cooked Food is the Path to Health, Not Junk Food”, and “Time Spent with Children Shapes Their Future”. He concluded by asserting that Poshan Pakhwada would play a pivotal role in the realisation of a healthy Andhra Pradesh.
