Israel has expressed doubts regarding the mediating role Pakistan is playing in the ongoing ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran. Israel's Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, stated unequivocally that they do not consider Pakistan to be a trustworthy mediator. He clarified that while the United States may be utilizing Pakistan's services for its own specific reasons, Tel Aviv, for its part, does not place its trust in Pakistan in this matter.
Azar opined that the current situation involving Pakistan mirrors the approach taken during the Trump administration, when the US worked with problematic nations—such as Qatar and Turkey—to secure a ceasefire in Gaza. He stated that their primary focus remains on achieving their desired outcomes in collaboration with the United States.
Azar drew a clear distinction between the ceasefire efforts with Iran and their ongoing struggle against Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon. "In the case of Lebanon, our objective is crystal clear: to completely eradicate Hezbollah's terrorist infrastructure from southern Lebanon. This is a responsibility that lies with the Lebanese government," he asserted. He revealed that, over the past few hours, the Israeli Air Force conducted a major operation in Lebanon, eliminating more than 250 Hezbollah terrorists. He reiterated that Israel possesses the inherent right to defend its northern borders against attacks by Hezbollah. At the same time, Azar stated that Israel supports the ongoing discussions between the United States and Iran. He noted that they hope these talks will eliminate two major threats: Iran's nuclear program and its ballistic missile production. Meanwhile, Iran warned that the agreement is at risk of being jeopardized by Israeli attacks on Lebanon. However, the United States and Israel have previously clarified that Lebanon has no connection to this ceasefire agreement.
