WALTAIR DIVISION INTRODUCES RAPIDO PICKUP FACILITY AT VISAKHAPATNAM RAILWAY STATION*

In view of the challenges faced by passengers arriving at Visakhapatnam Railway Station, the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has taken an innovative step by establishing a dedicated Rapido pickup booking facility on the station premises. This initiative aims to ensure a smooth, comfortable, and hassle-free onward journey for passengers.

The Rapido Pickup Point was inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager Shri Lalit Bohra in the presence of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Shri K. Pavan Kumar, Divisional Commercial Manager Smt. Pooja Singh, Station Director Shri A.M. Ubale, and other officials.

Rapido, one of India’s leading bike taxi service providers, has been operating in Visakhapatnam city since 2018. The newly introduced pickup facility is expected to benefit approximately 8,000 to 10,000 passengers, providing seamless last-mile connectivity from the railway station to various destinations across the city.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, Shri Lalit Bohra stated that passengers had been experiencing delays in ride bookings from the station, particularly due to inaccurate Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) on various platforms, including Rapido. He noted that riders often being in transit resulted in longer wait times despite short ETAs being displayed.

To address this issue, the Waltair Division has established a dedicated Rapido pickup zone under Non-Fare Revenue (NFR) system. This facility enables better coordination between passengers and Rapido drivers, effectively reducing waiting time and offering near-zero ETA service, allowing passengers to access rides instantly upon arrival.

DRM further highlighted that the initiative prioritizes passenger safety and convenience. Women passengers can opt for women drivers, ensuring a secure travel experience. Additionally, senior citizens and passengers requiring special assistance will be served by certified and experienced drivers, enhancing reliability and comfort.

An executive from Rapido, present at the event, stated that considering the positive response and growing demand, similar pickup facilities may soon be introduced at other railway stations under the Waltair Division.
