Waltair Division Strengthens Healthcare Initiatives with Ambulance Launch, Cancer Screening, and Community Health Awareness*
Waltair Division of East Coast Railway, took a significant step towards strengthening employee welfare with the inauguration of ambulance services at the Diesel Colony Health Unit. The service was formally commissioned by Shri Lalit Bohra, Divisional Railway Manager , for the benefit of employees and their families across the Diesel Loco Shed (DLS) and Marripalem areas. This initiative, the first of its kind in Waltair Division, aims to provide timely medical assistance to staff working in sheds and workshops. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr D Sharath Babu, senior officers including Sr. DME/DLS, Sr. DEE/TRS, DME/DLS, DMO/DLS, DMO/MPM, along with recognised trade unions and employees.
Further today, the Medical Department of Waltair Division organised a cancer screening camp for women employees of the Diesel Loco Shed, Waltair, in association with Medicover Cancer Hospital. The camp, was inaugurated by Shri Lalit Bohra DRM Waltair in the presence of senior railway officials and a specialised medical team from the hospital.
The initiative aimed to create awareness among the employees and railway colone people on preventive healthcare and early detection, ensuring better health outcomes for women employees.More than 80 women utilized this facility where PAP sample collected from 23 and ECG done for 41 women.
In a continued effort to promote community health awareness, a special health talk was conducted at the Montessori School run by the East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation. Medical experts addressed parents and children on crucial topics including maternal health, nutrition for premature babies, and the importance of breastfeeding. Emphasis was laid on avoiding ready-made foods such as commercial cereals and drinks, encouraging home-prepared nutrition, incorporating fruits into children’s diets, and avoiding sugar intake for infants below one year. The session highlighted the importance of vaccination and informed parenting practices, aiming to foster healthier lifestyles among families in the railway community.
