*A ‘game-changer’ in education: Government school achievers find place on front pages*

Visakhapatnam, May 1:
* Describing it as a watershed moment in the State’s education sector, TDP State president and Gajuwaka MLA, Palla Srinivasa Rao, has welcomed the initiative to feature the achievements of government school students on the front pages of leading newspapers.

He noted that, for years, such visibility had been largely confined to private and corporate institutions, and the extension of this recognition to students from government schools signals a meaningful shift in priorities. The move, he said, reflects an evolving educational ethos that values merit across socio-economic divides.

Mr. Rao emphasised that recognition plays a decisive role in shaping student confidence. Public acknowledgement of merit, he observed, not only validates individual effort but also encourages a culture of aspiration. He pointed out that many of the students being recognised come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and their emergence into the public eye at the State level serves as a powerful source of social inspiration.

Dismissing suggestions that the exercise is merely symbolic, he described it instead as a substantive and historic intervention aimed at restoring the dignity of government schooling.

Mr. Rao also commended Education Minister Nara Lokesh for initiating the measure. He remarked that the Minister had correctly grasped the importance of recognition in fostering self-belief among students and had translated that understanding into policy.

Referring to the Minister’s 100-day action plan, he said that perceptible improvements in the quality of public education were already evident. Initiatives such as LEAP, he added, underscore the principle that academic performance must be complemented by due recognition, thereby creating a more balanced and motivating learning environment.

Mr. Rao concluded that such measures would go a long way in strengthening public confidence in government schools while instilling a sense of self-worth among students, ultimately laying a durable foundation for the State’s educational progress.
