*Awareness needed on rise in inflammatory bowel disease cases: Medicover experts*

Visakhapatnam :Indian News Times:
On the occasion of World Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Day, gastroenterology experts at Medicover Hospitals said that early diagnosis, public awareness and timely treatment of IBD are the most important. This year's theme "IBD Has No Borders – Access to IBD Care" is a reminder to the world about the need for quality healthcare to be available to every patient.

Dr. Anirudh Kovvali, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Medicover Hospitals, said that cases of IBD like ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are currently increasing rapidly among the youth. He said that factors like changing dietary habits, stress, reduced physical activity, and excessive antibiotic use are leading to the increase in these diseases.

It is advised to consult a gastroenterologist immediately without ignoring symptoms like chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in stool, weight loss, and fatigue.  Delayed diagnosis can increase the risk of intestinal problems, malnutrition, and colorectal cancer.

However, IBD can be effectively controlled with currently available biologic therapies, modern treatments, and lifestyle changes, he said. Experts have suggested that a balanced diet, stress management, hygiene, and regular medical checkups are key to maintaining health.
