Celebrations by Women at the Visakhapatnam TDP Office. 33% Reservation for Women: A Historic Decision
Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times: May 29: S. Kota MLA Lalitha Kumari stated that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has always been at the forefront of prioritizing women. Expressing their delight over the provision of a 33 percent reservation for women, S. Kota MLA Lalitha Kumari and several members of the 'Telugu Mahila' wing held celebrations on Friday at the TDP office in Visakhapatnam. Within the premises of the TDP office, they garlanded the statue of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and raised slogans while holding placards. They further marked the occasion by cutting a cake in celebration. Speaking at the event, Lalitha Kumari extended her gratitude to Nara Lokesh on behalf of the women. She remarked that the women of the state would remain deeply indebted to Chief Minister Chandrababu and Minister Nara Lokesh for implementing the 33 percent reservation for women—a move inspired by the party's founder, NTR. She took a sarcastic dig at the "Axe Party" (referring to the opposition), stating that women find no safety within its ranks; she questioned what those who fail to deliver justice to their own mother and sister could possibly do for other women. She suggested that it would be beneficial if Jagan, at least now, began to speak the truth.
She affirmed that the Telugu Desam Party would always stand in support of women. She lauded the TDP as the only party that has demonstrated women's empowerment through actions rather than mere words. She praised Party Chief Chandrababu Naidu and Working President Nara Lokesh for taking decisions that will go down in history, noting that they ensured women's reservations and empowerment were not confined merely to paper, but were translated into concrete reality—a truly historic decision. It was the
Telugu Desam Party, he noted, that for the very first time provided a woman with the opportunity to serve as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. He stated that through the 'Stree Shakti' scheme—which offers free travel facilities on RTC buses—a total of 60 crore (600 million) journeys have been recorded to date. Furthermore, he mentioned that under the 'Thalliki Vandanam' scheme, a sum of ₹8,745 crores has been deposited directly into the bank accounts of 43 lakh (4.3 million) mothers. Participating in this event were former VMRDA Chairperson Akkaramani Vijayanirmala; State Party Secretaries Eethalapaka Sujatha, Sarvasiddhi Ananthalakshmi, and Gayathri Phani Kumari; as well as women leaders Kedari Lakshmi, Thota Sridevi, Pidugu Manga Lakshmi, Ganagalla Satya, Nakka Annapurna, Barla Padma, Boddepalli Lalitha, P.
