Visakhapatnam Indian News Times
Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has commenced the campaign of the observation of the World Environment Day – 2026 from 15th May to 5th June 2026 with a series of awareness and sustainability initiatives aimed at promoting environmental consciousness among railway employees, passengers, and the general public.

The campaign was formally launched today with the unveiling of the World Environment Day awareness posters by Divisional Railway Manager Shri Lalit Bohra in the presence of Branch Officers, officers, supervisors, and staff members of Waltair Division.

As part of the observance, the Environment Management & House Keeping Department of Waltair Division will organize a wide range of awareness and outreach activities across stations, offices, colonies, and railway establishments throughout the Division.

The fortnight-long campaign will focus on spreading awareness about climate change, environmental protection, waste management, and sustainable lifestyle practices in line with the Mission LiFE initiative. Posters, banners, and digital messages carrying environmental themes and slogans such as “Say No to Single Use Plastic” and promotion of eco-friendly habits will be displayed prominently at stations and public areas.

Special awareness drives will also be conducted to encourage passengers and railway employees to adopt environmentally responsible practices such as the use of reusable water bottles, cloth bags, and containers. Emphasis will also be laid on promoting digital ticketing and paperless travel through RailOne and other online applications.

Workshops and sensitization programmes on climate action, waste segregation, cleanliness, and sustainable practices will be organized for railway employees during the campaign period. Public awareness activities at stations will further encourage travelers to “Carry Your Own Water Bottle” and reduce plastic waste.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Lalit Bohra, DRM, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility towards environmental conservation and urged all employees and passengers to actively participate in the campaign and adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
