GENERAL MANAGER, SOUTH COAST RAILWAY REVIEWS SAFETY MEASURES; STRESSES ENHANCED ALERTNESS OF TRAIN-PASSING STAFF AND SAFETY AT LEVEL CROSSING GATES*

Visakhapatnam : Indian News Times: 21 June 2026 ,General Manager, South Coast Railway, Shri Sandeep Mathur, today conducted a comprehensive Safety Review Meeting with the Principal Heads of Departments (PHODs) and Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) of all four divisions of the Zone. The meeting focused on strengthening operational safety through enhanced vigilance of train-passing staff and improved safety measures at Level Crossing (LC) gates.

General Manager highlighted the critical role of train-passing staff in ensuring the safe movement of trains across the railway network. He directed all field officials to maintain the highest level of alertness while performing train-passing duties and to strictly adhere to established safety procedures without any deviation. He emphasized that constant vigilance, timely communication, and disciplined execution of duties are essential to achieving the objective of zero-compromise on safety.


A detailed review of safety practices at Level Crossing gates was also undertaken. Shri Sandeep Mathur instructed officials to ensure strict compliance with all prescribed operating procedures at LC gates and directed that gate operations be carried out with utmost care and responsibility.  

Shri Sandeep Mathur, GM, further highlighted the need for continuous safety awareness among staff associated with train operations and level crossing management. He called upon officers to regularly counsel and educate frontline employees, conduct periodic safety drives, and reinforce best practices through inspections and monitoring. He also instructed departments to identify potential vulnerabilities proactively and initiate timely corrective measures to enhance the overall safety framework.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all departments and divisions to uphold the highest standards of safety at Level Crossing gates.
