GM, SOUTH COAST RAILWAY REVIEWS MONSOON PREPAREDNESS AT WATER LOGGING-PRONE LIMITED HEIGHT SUBWAYS IN VISAKHAPATNAM DIVISION*
Visakhapatnam : Indian News Times: 9 July 2026 General Manager, South Coast Railway, Shri Sandeep Mathur, conducted a detailed inspection of Limited Height Subways (LHSs) prone to water logging during the monsoon season in Visakhapatnam Division today. The inspection was aimed at reviewing the preparedness of the railway officials to ensure public safety and effective management of water logging during heavy rainfall.
General Manager was accompanied by Divisional Railway Manager, Visakhapatnam Division, Shri Lalit Bohra, Principal Chief Engineer Shri BSK Rajkumar, Senior Officers from the Zonal Headquarters and from the Division. During the inspection, the General Manager reviewed the arrangements made at the vulnerable Limited Height Subways- between Pendurti – Simhachalam North section (at KMs 865/01-03) and another one between Gopalapatnam – Visakhapatnam section (at KMs 875/10-12).
General Manager examined the preventive measures put in place to tackle water accumulation during periods of intense rainfall. He reviewed the availability and operational readiness of diesel and electrical pumps, sump arrangements, natural drainage systems, CCTV surveillance, covered pump sheds, cross drainage facilities, safety chains, stop boards and speed breakers installed at the subways.
Shri Sandeep Mathur directed the officers to maintain a high level of preparedness throughout the monsoon season and ensure that all dewatering equipment remains in serviceable condition at all times. He emphasized that prompt action should be taken whenever water accumulation occurs so that the subways are restored for safe public use at the earliest.
General Manager instructed officials to closely monitor weather forecasts, deploy field staff round the clock at vulnerable locations during heavy rains and ensure seamless coordination among engineering, electrical and operating departments for swift response.
