GM, SOUTH COAST RAILWAY REVIEWS EFFECTIVE SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT*

16 July 2026,Shri Sandeep Mathur, General Manager, South Coast Railway (SCoR), convened a comprehensive review meeting on strengthening Solid Waste Management across the Zone with a focus on sustainable and environmentally responsible waste disposal practices.

During the meeting, the General Manager emphasized the need for the effective implementation of scientific Solid Waste Management systems at railway stations, offices, colonies and other railway establishments. He stressed the importance of identifying Bulk Waste Generators, ensuring segregation of waste at source, and adopting efficient waste collection, processing and disposal mechanisms in accordance with prescribed environmental guidelines.


The review also focused on enhancing awareness among field units, improving monitoring mechanisms, and ensuring strict compliance with waste management practices to maintain cleaner railway premises and promote environmental sustainability. The General Manager directed officials to strengthen coordination among departments for the effective implementation of waste management initiatives across all divisions.

The meeting was attended by the Principal Heads of Departments of South Coast Railway Headquarters and the Divisional Railway Managers of all four divisions of South Coast Railway, who reviewed the existing systems and discussed measures to further improve waste management practices throughout the Zone.
