Visakhapatnam INDIAN NEWSTIMES:August 12, 2026: An awareness programme on the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ was organised at Gayatri Vidya Parishad College for Degree and PG Courses (Autonomous), MVP Campus, Visakhapatnam, under the aegis of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office–Visakhapatnam, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with the college.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. D. Giridhar, Director of UG Courses, said that good habits, positive thinking and discipline are essential during student life. He advised students to focus on their goals and develop their talents through education, sports and creative activities. He called upon students to play a responsible role in building a drug-free society.
Mr. B. Ruthvik, IRS, Income Tax Department, who attended the programme as the Chief Guest, said that drug abuse can have a serious impact on the future of young people. He explained that addiction affects several aspects of an individual’s life, including health, education, employment, family relationships and social well-being.
Ms. Sesha Padma, PRO of the college, advised young people to remain alert and stay away from the influence of drugs. She stressed that everyone has a responsibility to contribute towards preventing drug abuse.
Mr. Kandala Srirama Murthy, Field Publicity Officer, Central Bureau of Communication, explained the objectives of the Central Government’s ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ to the students. He stated that the primary objective of the campaign is to create widespread awareness, particularly among young people, about the harmful effects of drug abuse. He said that drug abuse not only damages an individual’s health but also adversely affects the family system and social values. He called upon the youth to become role models and leaders in the movement towards a drug-free society.
Following the awareness session, the students were administered the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ pledge.
On the occasion, Mr. D. Dakshinamurthy, Hon’ble Vice-President of the college; Mr. D. Giridhar, Director; Ms. Sesha Padma, PRO; Chief Guest Mr. B. Ruthvik, IRS; and SI Bhavya of III Town Police Station were felicitated.
Prizes were distributed to the students who participated in and won various competitions conducted as part of the programme. A drug-awareness skit presented by the artists of Navarasa Theatre Art Association, highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse, received an enthusiastic response from the students.
Dr. Anitha from the Department of Hindi, Dr. Shyamala from the Department of Microbiology, Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Head of the Department of English, Mr. K. Krishna Kumar, along with other faculty members and students, participated in the programme.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks.
