Grand 80th Independence Day Celebrations Hosted by the Port VPA Chairperson J.S. Bindra Confident of Surpassing the 100-Million-Tonne Cargo Milestone

Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times:August 15 : The 80th Independence Day celebrations were held with great enthusiasm at the Port Golden Jubilee Stadium under the aegis of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority. Port Chairperson J.S. Bindra attended the event as the chief guest and hoisted the national flag. Following this, CISF personnel presented a guard of honour; the Chairperson inspected the parade and accepted the salute. On this occasion, Bindra paid rich tributes to freedom fighters and the armed forces personnel serving in the nation's defence. He highlighted the maritime sector's development being achieved by India as part of the 'Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047'. He stated that the port had handled 91.17 million metric tonnes (MMT) of annual cargo—the highest volume in its history—marking a 10.34% growth compared to the previous year. He noted that this growth trend is continuing in the current financial year, with 32.10 MMT of cargo handled between April and July, representing a growth of nearly 13% compared to the 28.34 MMT handled during the same period last year.  Highlighting the key achievements of Visakhapatnam Port, he detailed milestones such as the successful berthing of a 292-meter-long Capesize vessel at the EQ-1 berth on June 5, 2026, the handling of 24 vessel movements within 24 hours, and the handling of 5.5 lakh tonnes of cargo in a single day.
