Visakhaptnam :Indian News Times:On the occasion of World Mosquito Day on 20.08.2026, the District Medical and Health Officer addressed the ANMs, ASHAs, NMEP Sub-Unit, AM Unit Gajuwaka, GVMC staff, DMO office staff and other staff present at the District Medical and Health Office - On 20th August in 1897, a British doctor named Sir Ronald Ross discovered that "malaria is caused by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito". We celebrate World Mosquito Day on 20th August every year to commemorate the day of his discovery. Sir Ronald Ross also received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1902. The theme/goal of 2026 is that if we all step forward together, we can eradicate mosquitoes, control diseases and build a healthy society.  To create awareness about diseases caused by mosquitoes, especially malaria, dengue, chikungunya, Zika and filaria. It was ordered to create awareness among the people about the following things to protect themselves from mosquito bites. Do not store water: Do not store water in coolers, flower pots, tires. Clean them once a week. Use mosquito nets: Mosquito nets are mandatory especially for children and pregnant women at night. Full sleeves: Mosquitoes are more common in the morning and evening. Mosquito coil/liquid: But make sure there is air in the room. Keep the surroundings clean: Keep it free of garbage and sewage. Later, the District Malaria Officer said- Today's purpose: "Eradicating mosquitoes = eradicating diseases".  Also awareness rallies with the students of schools, PHC, UPHC, colleges under the slogan "Mosquito-free house - Disease-free village" Rallies in schools & colleges-- Essay writing, essay, poster competitions: On the topic of "How to prevent mosquitoes" - Plays, skits: With students about diseases caused by mosquitoes - Swachh Bharat + Mosquito eradication: Cleaning the school premises

TV, Radio, Social Media: Awareness videos with hashtags #World Mosquito Day #Fight The Bite by APCHFW, WHO - SMS/WhatsApp messages: Messages like "Change water once a week"
Shri B. Nageswara Rao, District Mass Media Officer administered a pledge to the staff and officers present.
Later, he organized a rally from the DM&HO office and went up to Satyam Junction raising slogans and reached the office, creating awareness among the people.
