Pendurthi Resident Exemplifies Humanity Even in Death; Organ Donation Gives New Life to Three People*

Visakhapatnam:Indian News Times:August 27:A family from Pendurthi has set a noble example by embracing the idea that one can save others' lives through organ donation, even after death. Amidst their grief, the decision they took has granted a new lease on life to three patients.

*Elderly Man Collapses During Morning Walk*

K.S. Bhaskara Rao, a 60-year-old resident of Pendurthi, went for his usual morning walk on Sunday, the 23rd of this month. While walking, he suddenly collapsed. Locals who witnessed the incident immediately informed his family and friends.

His friends rushed to arrange an ambulance and took him to Apollo Hospital in Health City. Doctors provided emergency treatment and made every possible effort to save his life, keeping him on a ventilator for three days. However, there was no improvement in his condition.

Finally, on Wednesday evening, doctors declared that his brain had completely ceased functioning and that he was brain-dead.

*A Noble Decision by the Family*

Even in their moment of profound grief, Bhaskara Rao's family members remained composed. Realizing that he would not return, they stepped forward to donate his organs, hoping that others might live thanks to them.  Upon being promptly informed, representatives from the Jeevandan organization arrived at the hospital and completed all necessary government clearances and medical tests. The organ donation certificate was handed over to the family.

The entire process was conducted smoothly under the supervision of Dr. Manmadha Rao, the VIMS Director and State Jeevandan Coordinator. Organs were allocated based on established protocols regarding seniority and medical urgency:

- One kidney and the liver: To patients undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital.
- The second kidney: To a patient at Seven Hills Hospital in Visakhapatnam.

These organs saved the lives of three individuals who were in critical condition.

*Funeral in the Village*

Following the organ retrieval process, Bhaskara Rao's mortal remains were handed over to his family this morning. Subsequently, the funeral rites were performed at the Pendurthi cremation ground, attended by family members, relatives, and friends.

Doctors from Apollo Hospital and Jeevandan representatives lauded the family's decision, noting that it gave a new lease of life to three people and that their sacrifice would never be forgotten. They also emphasized the need to raise awareness about organ donation within society.
