Visakhapatnam, 26 August 2026: St. Joseph’s College for Women (Autonomous), Visakhapatnam, celebrated Onam 2026 with great enthusiasm, traditional fervour and festive spirit on the college campus today.
As part of the celebrations, a Pookalam (Flower Carpet) Decoration Competition was organised for the various Clubs and Associations of the college. Students participated with great enthusiasm and creativity, showcasing their artistic skills and teamwork through beautiful Pookalams created using natural flower petals and other eco-friendly materials. The competition commenced at 8:00 a.m. and was completed within the stipulated time.
The celebrations were further enlivened by colourful and energetic Onam dance performances by the students. The vibrant presentations reflected the rich cultural traditions associated with Onam and created an atmosphere of joy, unity and togetherness. The programme also provided students with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate their creativity, artistic talents, teamwork and organisational skills.
The celebrations were conducted under the guidance of Principal Dr. Sr. Shyji and Vice Principal Dr. Sr. Hema, with the support and coordination of the Student Council members—Dr. K. Sujatha, Mrs. Sony, Dr. Mousami, Dr. Sr. Latha, Mrs. Pratyusha, Mrs. Urmila, Dr. Koteswara Rao and Dr. Praveen—along with the Teaching and Non-Teaching Faculty, Management and students of the college.
The Onam celebrations concluded on a joyous note, conveying the timeless message of peace, prosperity, happiness, harmony, unity and togetherness and strengthening the spirit of cultural inclusiveness among the entire college community.
