Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times:August 20, 2026: St. Joseph’s College for Women (A), Visakhapatnam, is organising a One-Day Seminar on “Millets to Models: Natural and Sustainable Farming for the 21st Century” on 22 August 2026 at Seminar Hall–I. The seminar is jointly organised by the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Botany, and Biotechnology.PrincipalDr. Sr. Shyji P.D. Released the brochure and said that the seminar aims to promote chemical-free, climate-resilient and income-secure agriculture through natural farming and millets. It seeks to create awareness among researchers, scientists, agriculturalists, faculty members and students about sustainable agricultural practices and the nutritional, ecological and economic significance of millet-based farming.
The programme will provide a platform for interaction with experts on natural farming, millet-based crop models, digital breeding, genetic diversity and sustainable crop production. The discussions will focus on innovative agricultural practices that can enhance farm productivity, protect the environment and contribute to food and nutritional security.
The resource persons include K. Prakash, Assistant Director of Agriculture; Smt. B. Satya Shyamala, District Project Manager, APCNF, Visakhapatnam; Dr. Y. Sandhya Rani, Scientist, ARS–Vizianagaram; N. Anuradha, Senior Scientist (Plant Breeding), ARS–Vizianagaram; and Dr. Vana Prasada Rao, Scientist–Agronomy, BCT–Kovvur. They will deliberate on various dimensions of natural farming, millet cultivation, genetic diversity, digital breeding and organic and natural farming practices.Dr. M. Padma Sundari, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, SJCW(A), is the Convenor. Dr. A. Veerabrahmam, Head, Department of Biotechnology, SJCW(A), and Mr. K. Srinu, Head, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, SJCW(A), are the Co-Convenors.The seminar is expected to encourage students and young researchers to explore sustainable agricultural solutions and strengthen the integration of traditional farming wisdom, scientific research and emerging technologies for a resilient and sustainable agricultural future
