Visakhapatnam Indian News Times September 10, 2026:The Department of Biochemistry, St. Joseph’s College for Women (Autonomous), Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with IQAC and with the support of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority, commenced the two-day International Conference “Recent Advances in Biological Sciences – RABS-2K26” on Thursday at the college Seminar Hall.
The conference is being organised on the theme “Environmental Challenges and Human Health: Integrating Science for a Sustainable Future.” More than 150 students, researchers, faculty members, scientists and industry professionals are participating in the conference.
Chief Guest Dr. Suman Das, Radiologist and Specialist Oncologist, Apollo Hospital, Health City Unit, Visakhapatnam, inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp and delivered an insightful talk on “The Exposed Human: How the World Around Us Gets Under Our Skin.” He highlighted the impact of environmental exposure on human health and the link between environmental factors, human biology and disease.
Principal Dr. Sr. Shyji P.D. and Vice-Principal Dr. Sr. Hema congratulated the Department of Biochemistry and the organising team for choosing a highly relevant theme.
Guests of Honour Dr. Sheetal Madan, BHMS, and Dr. K. Manikya Kumari, Former Head, Department of Botany, also addressed the gathering.
Conference Convener Dr. P. Mary Anupama, Head, Department of Biochemistry, said that the conference aims to connect scientific advancements with environmental and health challenges and encourage sustainable solutions. Co-Convener Dr. Mousami Shankar expressed concern over climate change and its impact on human health.
IQAC Coordinator Dr. T. Bhaskara Sudha, faculty members and students of the Department of Biochemistry are coordinating the conference.
