Visakhapatnam -Indian News Times- Hindustan Shipyard Limited today laid the keel of the second 60 Ton Bollard Pull Tug, VC 11206, for Visakhapatnam Port Authority
(VPA), performed by Chief Guest Shri Jasmeet Singh Bindra, IRTS, Chairperson, VPA, in the presence of senior officials from VPA, HSL, IRS and Solas Marine. Contracted in Dec 2025 and built to IRS class, its twin tug has crossed 60% completion, with both set to float out together this October. This is HSL's 13th vessel for VPA since Launch Shanti in 1970.
Chief Guest Shri Jasmeet Singh Bindra said the two tugs are strategic assets that will strengthen safe berthing and cut turnaround time at the port, reflecting HSL's renewed momentum under Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. He called VPA and HSL two heritage organisations of Vizag, both serving the nation for over 90 years, commending HSL for holding its timelines, from steel cutting in February to keel laying today.
RAdm Chandrasekharan Raghuram, VSM (Retd.), C&MD, HSL, thanking Shri Bindra, VPA's officials, IRS, and HSL's officers, supervisors and workmen, said HSL remains committed to delivering on its word. He outlined a far larger partnership taking shape with VPA, including a proposed 60 ton electric tug and green fleet conversion, a long term ship repair tie up using HSL's dry dock, and a future shipbuilding complex at Dugarajapatnam. "One yard, one mission, powering India's maritime destiny," he said.
Together, HSL and VPA are building more than tugs, a partnership aligned with Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047, positioning Visakhapatnam as a major shipbuilding and maritime hub.
