Amalapuram/Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times -The International Coastal Cleanup Day 2026 event was organized at S. Yanam Beach under the guidance of the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai. The program was conducted under the supervision of Aitabathula Rajasekhar, the in-charge of the local NIOT HF Radar remote site.
Amalapuram MLA Aitabathula Anandarao attended the event as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Anandarao stated that the objective of the International Coastal Cleanup campaign is to propagate the message of "Clean Coast, Safe Ocean." He appealed to the public to keep coastal areas clean and to ensure that plastic and other waste materials are not dumped into the sea. He noted that curbing plastic pollution not only protects marine life but also preserves the ecological balance of coastal regions. He called upon everyone to take social responsibility in keeping the coastline clean, attractive, and eco-friendly.
The MLA also announced that a modern, four-story watchtower equipped with advanced technology is being constructed at Coco Beach in the Andhra-Godavari region to monitor tourist safety. He explained that monitoring and security rooms, along with a storeroom, would be set up on the ground floor, and binoculars would be installed on the upper floors to facilitate the direct observation of boats moving along the coastline. He mentioned that events such as Sankranti celebrations and women's beach volleyball competitions had been introduced at the beach to promote public recreation. He stated that such activities would create livelihood opportunities for the youth, local traders, and many others.
The MLA revealed plans to establish resorts and accommodation facilities in the future, aiming to attract international tourists and develop the beach into a major tourist destination. Recalling Ananda Rao's earlier tenure as MLA, he alleged that while a restaurant had been built as part of the beach development back then, the previous administration had neglected it, rendering it unusable. He noted that although several legislators had represented the constituency, none had paid adequate attention to the beach's development. He highlighted that during his second term as MLA—spanning the two-year coalition government—he had accelerated development works at the beach and strived for the all-round development of the constituency. Emphasizing the need for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's leadership for sustained progress, he expressed his resolve to develop Coco Beach into an international tourist hub with the active participation of the people of the Amalapuram constituency. They actively participated in the coastal cleanup drive and raised awareness about maintaining clean beaches and preserving the marine environment. The event was attended by ZPTC members Deshamshetti
