Visakhapatnam Port Participates in the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies*

 

Visakhapatnam- Indian News Times -Port Authority participated in the "International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies – 2026" events, which were organized to raise public awareness regarding the prevention, control, and mitigation of air pollution and to highlight the importance of clean air.

An awareness rally was held on Beach Road as part of the 'Clean Air Day' program organized under the aegis of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB). The rally was flagged off by APPCB Chairman Sri P. Krishnaiah, GVMC Commissioner Sri Ketan Garg (IAS), Port Chairperson Sri J.S. Bindra (IRTS), and Port Deputy Chairperson Smt. Roshni Aparanji Korati.

The primary objective of the rally was to foster public participation and involvement from various sections of society in preventing air pollution, while also raising awareness about the significance of clean air.

As part of its environmental conservation efforts, Visakhapatnam Port is conducting a program to plant 3,000 saplings. This initiative underscores the Port's commitment to enhancing greenery, protecting the environment, and improving air quality.  Similarly, the Port has commissioned three **Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS)** in the Malkapuram, Akkayyapalem (Port Stadium), and Pandurangapuram (Harbour Park) areas. These stations enable continuous, real-time monitoring of air quality, facilitating the assessment of air pollution levels and the timely implementation of necessary preventive measures.

An expenditure of ₹6.54 crore was incurred for the installation of these three CAAQMS units, inclusive of 10 years of operation and maintenance (O&M).

VPA Chairperson Mr. J.S. Bindra (IRTS), APPCB Chairman Mr. P. Krishnaiah, VPA Deputy Chairperson Ms. Roshni Aparanji Korati, along with various heads of departments, VPA officials, and staff members, attended these events in large numbers.
