Visakhapatnam – In response to the call by the World Health Organization (WHO) and following the directives of the Director of Medical Education, Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada), World Patient Safety Day was observed at the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Visakhapatnam, on September 17, 2026. Programs centered on the themes "Safe Care for Non-communicable Diseases" and "Safe Care for Life!" were conducted to mark the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, VIMS Director Dr. V. Manmadha Rao emphasized the need to focus on key areas—such as the prevention of medical errors, medication safety, infection control, accurate patient identification, and effective communication—to ensure the delivery of safe and high-quality medical services. He advised that safety standards must be strictly adhered to while providing long-term treatment to patients suffering from non-communicable diseases.
Deputy Director Mr. Ch. Srinivasa Kumar, Administrator Dr. Manoj Kumar, Resident Medical Officer R. Sirisha, and Assistant Professors also spoke, noting that patient safety is an integral part of quality healthcare and urging all healthcare staff to perform their duties with vigilance.
At the conclusion of the program, the staff took a patient safety pledge, affirming their commitment to effectively discharging their responsibilities in providing safe medical care to patients. A large number of hospital staff participated in the event.
