17-Year-Old Ramesh Brings Light Even in Death -Parents’ Sacrifice: Gifting a New Lease on Life to Three Others Despite Losing Their Son
Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times: Mazzi Ramesh, from Ananthagiri Mandal, was only 17 years old—a young man full of dreams, aspirations, and hopes for the future. However, a horrific road accident on the 16th of this month turned his life upside down in an instant.
Following the accident, in which he sustained severe head injuries, his family rushed him to KIMS Hospital in Visakhapatnam. The medical team worked tirelessly to save him; however, despite the best possible advanced medical care, his condition remained critical due to extensive brain damage. On October 18th, doctors declared Ramesh brain-dead.
Upon hearing this, his family was devastated. The realization that their son—who was on the threshold of adulthood and destined to be the family’s pillar of support—was gone, plunged them into an ocean of griefA Noble Decision in a Moment of DespairAmidst this profound sorrow, the medical team approached the family with a compassionate suggestion: some of Ramesh’s organs were still functional, and donating them could save the lives of other patients.
The idea that one could still be of service to others, even in death, deeply touched the hearts of his parents. Swallowing the immense pain of losing their child, the family agreed to organ donation, hoping that "our child might live on in another form and wipe away the tears of another mother." This was no ordinary decision; for any parents grieving the loss of their son, it is an incredibly difficult choice. Yet, Ramesh’s family stepped forward to make this profound sacrifice.
The hospital’s medical team immediately brought the matter to the attention of Dr. V. Manmadha Rao, the state coordinator for the 'Jeevandan' (organ donation) program. He responded promptly and granted the necessary authorizations for the organ retrieval.
Following the Jeevandan protocol...In accordance with the Jeevandan program’s protocol, the medical team retrieved two viable kidneys and the liver from Ramesh’s body. These were allocated to patients on the Jeevandan waiting list—two individuals suffering from kidney disease and dependent on dialysis, and another patient suffering from liver disease. In essence, Ramesh’s passing gifted a new lease on life to three other people.A Dignified FarewellOnce the organ donation process was complete, the medical team—under the guidance of Dr. V. Manmadha Rao—along with the hospital staff, bid a solemn and respectful farewell to Ramesh. They adorned his mortal remains with flowers and offered a formal salute, paying tribute to the young man’s sacrifice. It was a poignant moment that brought tears to the eyes of everyone present. Although Ramesh has physically departed from this world, he continues to live on through the bodies of two other individuals. The decision made by his family sends a powerful message to society.
Organ donation.. that is the real donation
-Dr. V Manmadha Rao, Jeevan Daan State Coordinator Every year, lakhs of people in our country are waiting for organs. Kidney, liver, heart, lungs, eyes... Organ donation after a person is brain dead can save up to 8 lives. However, due to lack of awareness and misconceptions, many families do not come forward.
This situation will change only when people like Ramesh's family come forward. Those parents who made a courageous decision even in grief are truly commendable. Both families are now happy because of their sacrifice.
“Ramesh is gone... but the life he gave will continue in both of them. What greater legacy can there be?”* said Thos present with emotion.
