Visakhaptnam Indian News Times: Guntakal–Raichur Section Fully Converted to Automatic Block Signalling (Abs)*
In a monumental leap forward towards modernizing railway infrastructure, enhancing safety, and expanding line capacity, South Coast Railway has successfully commissioned Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) along the crucial 28.112 Route Kilometers (56.224 Track Kilometers) double-line stretch between Adoni, Isivi, Kuppagal, and Kosgi stations in Guntakal Division today i.e. on 16th October 2026.
It is a part of a comprehensive safety and capacity enhancement initiative sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹500 Crores, this commissioning marks the successful conversion of the entire high-density Guntakal–Raichur corridor into a fully automated signalling section. With this, South Coast Railway has achieved key milestone of commissioning a cumulative 105 Route Kilometers of Automatic Block Signalling across its network. The newly commissioned 28.112 Rkm stretch—comprising Adoni–Isivi (6.64 Rkm), Isivi–Kuppagal (7.79 Rkm), and Kuppagal–Kosgi (13.68 Rkm)—has been equipped with cutting-edge signalling and fail-safe safety infrastructure. Advanced Dual Multi-Section Digital Axle Counters (Dual MSDAC of Frauscher make) featuring 178 Detection Points have been deployed across the three sections.
The project involved the commissioning of 38 new mainline signals, 24 station semi-automatic signals, and 5 dedicated ABS huts. To enhance level crossing safety, Level Crossing Gate No. 204 has been interlocked with the signalling network, while modern approach locking and audio-visual approach warning systems have been commissioned at LC Gates 195, 199, 201, 204, and 205.. The signalling system is further reinforced with 5 state-of-the-art Integrated Power Supply units for uninterrupted power, 5 advanced Data Loggers for real-time asset performance monitoring and diagnostic reporting, and 16 sets of Universal Fail-Safe Block Interfaces alongside non-vital multiplexers.
General Manager, South Coast Railway, Shri Sandeep Mathur commended the dedicated officers, engineers, and ground staff of the Projects Wing and the Signal & Telecommunication Department for executing the commissioning works smoothly without disrupting regular train traffic.
