Commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, South Coast Railway (SCoR) marked the grand culmination of the nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ campaign today with an intensive green plantation drive at Mudasarlova.

Observed across the zone from September 17 to October 2, 2026, the fortnight-long initiative placed strong emphasis on cleanliness, waste segregation at source, recycling, water conservation, expansive green plantations, and the complete elimination of single-use plastics. The campaign witnessed unprecedented enthusiasm, with more than 40,000 railway employees actively taking part in specialized cleanliness drives, public awareness rallies, and ecological conservation efforts across all divisions. As part of SCoR’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure, over 50,000 saplings were planted in railway colonies, station circulating areas, workshops, and office complexes in the zone.

On the concluding day, General Manager, South Coast Railway, Shri Sandeep Mathur, alongside Principal Heads of Departments (PHODs) and senior railway officials, led a large-scale plantation drive at the under-construction site of the new Zonal Headquarters Office building at Mudasarlova. Smt. Charu Mathur, President of the South Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (SCoRWWO), along with executive committee members, actively participated in planting saplings to promote green railway infrastructure.

Prior to the plantation activity, Shri Sandeep Mathur administered the Swachhata Pledge to officers and staff. Addressing the gathering, the General Manager invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of clean, self-reliant communities and urged every railway employee to dedicate at least one hour daily toward cleanliness and environmental conservation. He underscored the critical importance of phasing out single-use plastics, expanding green cover, and upholding the highest standards of hygiene across railway premises to enhance the travel experience for passengers.
