Visakhapatnam:Indian News Times: World Trauma Day was observed with great significance on Saturday at the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), under the leadership of its Director, Dr. V. Manmadha Rao.
An awareness program was held with the theme: "One phone call... can protect a precious life! Let us stand by accident victims... and save lives!"
Dr. V. Manmadha Rao explained that World Trauma Day, observedannually on October 17th, aims to raise awareness about severe injuries resulting from road accidents, falls from heights, and workplace mishaps. Its primary objectives include preventing such accidents and ensuring that victims receive timely emergency medical care.
He offered several guidelines for responding to an accident: call 108 immediately, ensure the accident site is safe, avoid moving the victim unnecessarily, apply pressure to any bleeding wounds using a clean cloth, monitor the victim's breathing, and offer reassurance until professional help arrives. He further encouraged the public not to hesitate in assisting accident victims, noting that Indian law provides legal protection to "Good Samaritans" who step forward to help in good faith. "I will follow road safety rules, I will not ignore accident victims, and I will call 108 in case of an emergency"—everyone took this pledge on the occasion. Hospital Administrator Dr. Manoj Kumar, 108 service personnel, and nursing staff participated in this event.
