Amalapuram: Indian News Times :The issue surrounding the demolition of the British-era Salt Department building in Amalapuram is becoming increasingly controversial by the day. Questions regarding who authorized the Excise Department to demolish a government building and which department granted permission for this action have sparked intense public debate.

Despite clear regulations governing the management of government assets, there remains a lack of clarity on whether permissions were obtained from relevant departments, whether a tender process was conducted, or if a public notice was issued prior to the demolition—all of which has raised suspicions. People are questioning why officials, who strictly adhere to all protocols even when auctioning minor government vehicles, have remained silent regarding the demolition of a government asset worth crores of rupees. Although Excise officials claim to have spent ₹35,000 to clear the debris and have secured the salvaged timber, there are no official answers yet regarding which account the funds were released from, who granted administrative sanction for the expenditure, or by what authority they retained possession of the timber from the government building.

Locals are demanding that the district administration immediately provide clarity to the public regarding the complete file on the demolition, permissions, expenditure details, timber storage specifics, and the accountability of the officials involved.  Locals are strongly urging the District Collector to personally intervene in this matter, order a comprehensive inquiry, reveal the facts, and put an end to the suspicions prevailing among the public.
