Doctorate Awarded for Research on the Short Stories of Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi


Visakhaptnam: Indian News Times:Short Stories of Dr. P. K. JayalakshmiMr. Geddapu Janakiram has been awarded the Ph.D. degree for his research on the topic “Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi Kathalu – Parishilana (A Study of the Short Stories of Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi)”, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Jarra Appa Rao, Department of Telugu, Andhra University. The doctoral thesis presents a comprehensive study of the short-story literature of Dr. Pisipati Kameswari Jayalakshmi.


Dr. Pisipati Kameswari Jayalakshmi has earned a distinctive place in Telugu literature as a prominent short-story writer. Her stories explore a wide range of themes, including women’s lives, family relationships, social issues, women’s empowerment, self-respect, human values, and contemporary realities. Her literary strength lies in sensitively observing everyday experiences and transforming them into meaningful and impactful works of fiction.

In his research, Mr. Geddapu Janakiram has critically analysed Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi’s short stories from various perspectives, including theme, narrative structure, characterisation, language, style, feminist perspective, social consciousness, and human values. The study constitutes a valuable contribution to the academic study of Telugu short-story literature.

Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi served for many years as the Former Head of the Department of Second Languages at St. Joseph’s College for Women (Autonomous), Visakhapatnam. She is currently serving the same institution as the Public Relations Officer (PRO). Her contributions to the fields of education, literature, and cultural activities have been noteworthy.

On this occasion, the Principal and teaching faculty of St. Joseph’s College for Women (Autonomous), Visakhapatnam, congratulated Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi and appreciated her significant achievements and outstanding contributions to education and literature. They conveyed their heartfelt wishes on this academic distinction.

Mr. Geddapu Janakiram, who has been awarded the Ph.D., is currently working as a School Assistant (Telugu) at Kothuru in Srikakulam District. His research on the short stories of Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi is a valuable contribution to the field of Telugu literary research.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Geddapu Janakiram is the second researcher to be awarded a Ph.D. for research on the literary works of Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi. Earlier, Urmila Devi Appadu of the Mauritius Open University completed her doctoral research on the works of Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi and was awarded her Ph.D. in 2020.
