Visakhapatnam: Indian News Times:On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2026, the Department of Home Science, St. Joseph’s College for Women organised awareness activities on 1st August 2026. UG and PG students of Home Science along with the students of the Community College actively participated in the programme.
As part of the awareness initiative, the students organised a rally within the college campus to highlight the importance of breastfeeding, its benefits for infants, maternal health, and healthy child development. Through awareness slogans and messages, the students spread the significance of breastfeeding among the college community.
Dr. Sravanthi Kolli sensitised the students on the importance of breastfeeding, maternal and infant health, the need for family and community support for breastfeeding mothers, and the role of healthcare professionals and students in promoting scientific and evidence-based breastfeeding practices. An interactive session followed, during which she answered the queries raised by the students.
The awareness rally and guest lecture enhanced the students’ knowledge about breastfeeding and encouraged them to contribute towards maternal and child health, public health awareness, and social responsibility. The programme was successfully organised with the active coordination of the faculty and students of the Department of Home Science.

A special guest lecture was organised on the theme “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthening Support for Healthier Mothers and Children.” The session was delivered by Dr. Sravanthi Kolli, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon.
